The Chepang

The forthcoming issue of the annual magazine Arts & Cultures revolves around the sacred and chamanism. Adrien Viel, a doctoral researcher in Himalayan anthropology, wrote about the Chepang living in central Nepal. His article is a preliminary note to the thorough and contemporary study he conducted on this minority population and which is to be published by the Fondation Culturelle Musée Barbier-Mueller.

On the photo below, Chepang men who shaved their heads to honour the ancestors of the underworlds. Now purified, they offer the ancestors the first harversts after the monsoon.
