Vase à décor godronné

Vase with gadroon decoration

By virtue of its decoration, this vase evokes a flower bud with petals opening to reveal its heart. That altogether Minoan sensibility is also found on the mural paintings of the palaces of Crete, where Minoan civilization developed, and even in Thíra, some 110 kilometers away on the island of Santorin. According to some specialists, when Thíra was covered with ashes during a violent volcanic eruption, Minoan civilization was destroyed or at least greatly weakened [1].
